Scottish Friendly has appointed Scott McNeill as its new chief financial officer (CFO), subject to regulatory approval, ahead of the proposed OneFamily merger.
McNeill who is currently chief actuary at Scottish Friendly, will succeed Alan Rankine, who has decided to step down from his role as CFO to pursue a new opportunity outside the organisation.
As part of Scottish Friendly’s established succession planning, McNeill will assume responsibility for the finance function and will take up the position of an executive director of the Board.
In addition, he will become CFO of the future merged organisation between Scottish Friendly and OneFamily, subject to receiving the necessary approvals.
He brings significant financial, actuarial and industry expertise to the role and played a key part in supporting Scottish Friendly’s strategic priorities, financial resilience and long-term growth ambitions.
Rankine joined Scottish Friendly in 2018 as chief actuary before becoming chief financial officer in 2022. During his time with the Society, he has made a significant contribution to the organisation, helping to strengthen its financial position while supporting key strategic initiatives.
He will remain with Scottish Friendly until early next year to support the proposed merger of Scottish Friendly and OneFamily and to ensure a smooth and orderly handover.
Stephen McGee, chief executive at Scottish Friendly, said: “Scott’s appointment is a reflection of the strength of talent and succession planning within Scottish Friendly. He combines deep knowledge of our business with extensive actuarial and financial expertise, making him exceptionally well placed to lead our finance function. With a strong leadership team, robust governance and a clear focus on delivering long-term value for members, we remain well positioned for the future and excited about the opportunities ahead.”
“Alan has made a significant contribution to Scottish Friendly over the past eight years and has played an important role in helping to shape the strong position we’re in today.”
Scott McNeill, said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity of becoming CFO at such an important period in Scottish Friendly’s history.
“I would like to thank Alan for his support over the years and wish him every success as he enters a new and exciting time in his career. I look forward to continuing to work closely with himself and the rest of the executive team over the coming months as we move closer to the proposed merger.”]
