Scottish Friendly recruits new comms boss

Kevin Brown

Scottish Friendly, Scotland’s largest financial mutual, has appointed Kevin Brown as its new PR and communications manager.

Mr Brown, who has almost 20 years’ experience in financial services communications, will be responsible for managing and delivering Scottish Friendly’s media relations strategy, and will also act as the company’s main day-to-day spokesperson.

Having began his career at AEGON, where he spent seven years as the company’s media relations manager, Mr Brown went on to join Lloyds Banking Group in 2010. His initial focus was on the bank’s Scottish Widows life and pensions business, however he was later appointed as senior media relations manager and tasked with building the reputation of the group’s wider Insurance and Wealth Division.

Mr Brown will take over the role of PR and communications manager from Calum Bennie, who spent 25 years at Scottish Friendly before retiring at the end of 2018.

Scottish Friendly can trace its roots back to 1862. Established as the City of Glasgow Friendly Society, its name changed 25 years ago when the business took over Scottish Friendly Assurance.
