Scottish integrated CBD businesses lands major contract with support from Business Gateway

A Scottish CBD-focused manufacturing business has secured a contract to manufacture products for one of the UK’s best known CBD brands after the business owner accessed specialist marketing support from Business Gateway.

Established in Perth in 2020, Voyager Life manufactures, supplies and retails plant-based health and wellness products made from the finest quality CBD and hemp seed oil. Its products include oral drops, and topical creams, as well as an award-winning pet care range. The business’ core product, CBD, is extracted from the cannabis plant.

Committed to sustainable principles, most of Voyager Life’s products are vegan, and the business aims to use recycled or recyclable packaging where possible. In 2022, Voyager Life became the only CBD company in the UK to operate a CBD refillery, where customers can buy packaging-free CBD products.

Voyager Life was founded by Perthshire businessman, Nick Tulloch who originally trained as a lawyer, and later spent 20 years in financial services before working in the States as a CEO for a health and wellness company.

When the pandemic hit and travel was denied, Nick knew that he had to be creative. Passionate about premium CBD, Nick sought to bring the very finest CBD and hemp products to the UK while utilising all the natural beauty and verdancy of his homeland, Scotland where he lives, and therefore approached Business Gateway for specialist support and advice.

From the start, Nick developed a strong relationship with his Business Gateway adviser, Andrew Webster, who was able to provide one-to-one support. This involved regular meetings and discussions to ensure steady growth, and also allowed Nick to be introduced to specialist services, including marketing support, and signposted to funding. Through Business Gateway, Nick received support from marketing specialist Catherine Robertson, who was able to help with branding and social media. This included designing and developing Voyager Life’s website and creating a variety of eye-catching social media posts to ensure optimum engagement.

Nick has also made use of HR support from Business Gateway and recently completed a skills audit to help identify potential knowledge gaps or growth opportunities for the business.

More recently, Nick was guided by Business Gateway to apply for an EST 0% loan which allowed the business to purchase an electric car, used for travel between the company’s three stores in Edinburgh, St Andrews and Dundee.

The business has enjoyed major success this year with the introduction of their pet care range, which is stocked nationally in Jollyes stores, and most recently at Pets at Home. Voyager Life’s full range can be purchased online, as well as in their own stores.

Nick Tulloch, Founder of Voyager Life said: “The support and guidance we have received from Business Gateway over the past couple of years has played a significant part in our growth journey.

“Our Business Gateway adviser has been in constant contact with us, and the advice he has provided have helped spark our imagination and ideas for further growth.”

Andrew Webster, Business Gateway adviser, said: “It is very rewarding to see Voyager Life’s recent and significant growth, developing marketing skills, alongside HR support have become fundamental skills for Nick and his team.

“We’re really pleased to have been able to work together with the team to build these skills, which has helped secure their latest contract with Pets at Home, one of the UK’s leading pet care businesses.”
