And finally… new term, new currency

A Scottish boarding school has become the first in the UK to accept bitcoin as a form of school fee payment.
Lomond School in Helensburgh said it will begin accepting the cryptocurrency from the autumn term 2025. The independent school, with annual fees up to £38,000, introduced the option following parental requests and considers it consistent with its “ethos of independent thinking and innovation”.
Initially, Bitcoin payments will be converted directly into pounds sterling to manage the risks associated with the cryptocurrency’s volatility. Lomond School believes it is the first private school in the UK to offer this payment method and will only accept Bitcoin, not other cryptocurrencies.
Head teacher Claire Chisholm told the BBC: “For generations, this school has nurtured inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and open-minded risk-takers.
“It’s really no surprise then that the inventor of the television, John Logie Baird, is a former pupil.”
The school emphasised that all Bitcoin transactions will be secure, transparent, and adhere strictly to UK financial regulations, including anti-money laundering and tax compliance rules.
The cryptocurrency, which is known for its volatility, was last trading at around £64,000 at current exchange rates.
