Simon Howie Butchers Limited has reported a pre-tax profit of £6.9 million for the period ending 31 January 2025.

The Perthshire firm’s annual accounts show turnover increased by 27% from the previous year, reaching £37.4m. This represents a £1.4m rise in profitability from the £5.5m pre-tax profit recorded in 2023.

The company’s expansion was bolstered by strong growth in sales “south of the Scottish border”. Simon Howie continues to supply meat and vegetarian products to the UK’s largest supermarkets, with its dry-cured bacon, black pudding, and haggis lines highlighted as the UK’s best-selling products in their categories.

To support this growth, average staffing levels increased from 118 to 134 employees, primarily in manufacturing roles. Consequently, total staff costs, including salaries and pensions, rose to £5.3m for the year.

In the company’s strategic report, director Simon Howie said: “2024 was a very good year for the business, not withstanding the usual challenges of rising raw material costs, coupled with labour rate increases.

“The figures are slightly flattered by the 13 month year, but we are happy with the results generally. We are pleased to see that a lot of our growth came from sales south of the Scottish border.

“These results reflect that the company is increasingly profitable and is investing in operational improvements to maintain margins. Turnover is envisaged to further increase in the year ended January 2026 with the marketing of new products.”
