Fiona Doherty, managing director of Stagecoach South Scotland, has been elected as the new president of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, succeeding Derek Provan after his two-year term.

Ms Doherty, who previously served as deputy president of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, will be supported in her new role by Lindsay McGarvie, corporate affairs director at Edrington, who has been appointed as deputy president. Together, they join a newly appointed board bringing together leaders from academia, commerce, and industry, as the Chamber sets out its agenda for 2026.

Ms Doherty, Mr McGarvie and Mr Provan will be supported on the board by fellow members including Gillian Docherty (University of Strathclyde), Peter Duthie (formerly SEC), Neil Gibson (BIG Partnership), Rachel Sandison (University of Glasgow) and Evelyn Walker (Walker Gordon Associates).

The announcement was made at the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce AGM on 26 January, which set the agenda for the year ahead for the city.

Ms Doherty said: “It is a huge honour to be elected President, particularly as we enter a pivotal year for the city. Derek has been an outstanding leader, and I am committed to continuing his work in supporting our city’s business community.

“The chamber has been instrumental in launching the Let’s Go Glasgow Business Improvement District and the Destination Marketing Organisation. With both initiatives now set to be fully operational this year, the chamber will play a central role in ensuring their success.

“I look forward to working with our board and members to strengthen Glasgow as a vibrant place to live, work, and visit.”

Stuart Patrick CBE, chief executive, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce said: “2026 will be a very exciting year for Glasgow and with our newly elected president and vice president, the chamber stands ready to support members to take full advantage.

“With a Scottish election, the Commonwealth Games, the launch of our regional skills programme, GROW, and a very exciting programme of international trade missions across the year, it is set to be a busy year of activity.

“The chamber will continue to champion initiatives that support business growth across the city. From seeing progress on the Clyde Metro development and the creation of the new AI growth zones, to backing Glasgow Airport as it expands its international route offering and building on the incredible work of our Climate Chamber, the chamber will champion Glasgow as a great place to work, invest and visit.”
