Tesco Bank and Rock Trust celebrate outstanding fundraising partnership

After a hugely successful year of fundraising and volunteering, Tesco Bank is delighted to announce it has raised £64,000 for its 2017/18 charitable partnership with the Edinburgh-based homelessness charity, Rock Trust.

Established in 1991, Rock Trust works with young people aged 16-25 who are already homeless or at risk of being homeless.

There are a number of contributing factors for why young people become homeless, including family breakdown, unemployment and poverty, child abuse, drugs and alcohol.

Throughout the year, Tesco Bank colleagues have participated in a number of key events supporting the Rock Trust to build awareness of homelessness and to raise money to help alleviate the issue.

Fundraising participation included over 40 Tesco Bank colleagues taking part in the Rock Trust’s 2017 Sleep Out, which raised over £65,000 in total, with Tesco Bank colleagues contributing over £10,000.

Commenting on the success of the Tesco Bank partnership, Kate Dixon of the Rock Trust, said: “I’ve worked with a lot of companies in my charity career and to be honest I’ve been a bit blown away by the fundraising efforts by Tesco Bank employees.

“Partnerships thrive when both parties work well together and that has certainly been the case this year, we (Rock Trust) have a very clear vision ‘to end youth homelessness in Scotland’ and I think it connected with staff. Additionally, because we’re a local charity we’ve been able to engage easily with staff at a variety of events and offer meaningful volunteering and fundraising opportunities.

“Tesco Bank have set standards which will be very difficult to match. On behalf of the Rock Trust, I’d like to sincerely thank every single member of staff for such a successful year and we wish you the best for future partnerships.”

Tesco Bank head of communications, Chris Sibbald, said: “Working with and supporting the local communities in which we serve is vitally important to Tesco Bank, and the manner in which colleagues have embraced our fundraising and volunteering this year has been nothing short of inspirational.

“Working with the Rock Trust has been terrific, and we very much hope the money raised will go a long way to supporting the brilliant work that they do to end homelessness in Scotland.”

Deidre Brock, member of Parliament for Edinburgh North and Leith, said: “The Rock Trust is a fantastic charity doing excellent work in Edinburgh since the early 1990s. It delivers for a group of people who too often fall outside the scope of care of other organisations, young people needing a bit of support to get on in life. When no-one else steps up the Rock Trust does.

“The Tesco Bank employees who have raised such an amazing sum of cash deserve a lot of praise and the grateful thanks of everyone who values society and would like to strengthen it. Their contribution will help the Rock Trust to help others – it’s a fantastic effort and they should be proud of their achievement.”
