Marking International Women’s Day, Turcan Connell has announced the appointment of a hat-trick of female partners, leading 26 legal and tax promotions.

Jenny Younger, Simran Panesar-Saggu and Alice Warne have all been promoted to partner.

Ms Younger joined the Edinburgh office as a trainee in 2003 in the tax & succession team to advise on estate planning and capital taxation matters. She also leads on training & development for the tax & succession group to help maintain best practices across the growing team.

Ms Warne also trained with the firm and her key focus will be on continuing to develop the firm’s high value residential property offering, alongside continuing to advise on wider estate property matters and development work.

Ms Panesar-Saggu began her career with Turcan Connell as a trainee in 2006 before returning to the Glasgow office in 2015 to support the expanding team advising entrepreneurs and professionals on tax and succession planning in the west of Scotland. She also leads on the co-ordination of the business development strategy for the Glasgow office which has grown work each year since its inception in 2012.

In addition to the partner-level appointments, the promotions also secured the progression of three legal directors, six senior associates and associates, five senior solicitors, a senior tax assistant, a senior paralegal and a trainee paralegal.

Irene Steel has also been recruited as Turcan Connell’s chief finance and operations officer to work closely with Gillian Crandles, managing partner, and to oversee all aspects of the firm’s financial and operational functions.

Ms Crandles said: “Although 60% of solicitors in Scotland are female along with over half of the UK’s practitioners, women are still less visible in top roles at a national level.

“We are delighted to welcome Simran, Alice and Jenny to the partnership and are working hard to break down any barriers, perceived or real, so that all can progress their careers with us based on ambition, ability and talent.

“Technical excellence and emotional intelligence are incredibly valuable skills when dealing with private and complex family matters and are characteristics we foster and develop in all at Turcan Connell.

“Our business is committed to providing flexibility and to helping our colleagues to realise their ambitions whilst championing positive change in our profession. Congratulations to all our newly promoted colleagues.”
