Tilney Bestinvest has recruited former Royal Bank of Scotland wealth manager Roy Smith as the new director of its Glasgow planning team.

Mr Smith, who will be based in the investment management firm’s St Vincent Street office, will report directly to Stephen Parker, director of financial planning.

His appointment is part of a broader expansion plan for the company, reports Wealth Manager.

Mr Smith comes from his position as wealth manager and charter financial planner at RBS Private Clients, where he worked since 2011. He previously held roles at Adam & Company and Clydesdale Bank Insurance Brokers.

Richard Dawes, managing director of financial planning at Tilney Bestinvest, said: “Our financial planning business is currently undergoing a period of strong growth that reflects the huge number of enquiries the firm is receiving.

“With the radical shape-up to pensions, demand for sound financial planning advice has never been greater, and appointments like Roy’s ensure that we can provide the superior service our clients expect.

“We are delighted to welcome him to the team.”
