Trump Balmedie resort losses near £1m despite record turnover

Trump International Golf Club in Aberdeenshire has reported its 13th consecutive year of losses, despite achieving record sales.

The latest accounts for the Balmedie resort show a pre-tax loss of £938,000 for the 2024 calendar year.

This marks a reduction from the £1.4m deficit recorded in 2023, but brings the resort’s total pre-tax losses to over £15.7m since 2012. Conversely, turnover rose to a record £4.5m, an increase of £730,000 on the previous year.

In a strategic report signed off by director Eric Trump, the company attributed the ongoing losses to significant long-term investment. He stated that the company had “substantially increased sales across all revenue streams” while expanding its “world-class facilities”.

Key investments include the construction of a second 18-hole course, the MacLeod Course, which opened in July 2025. The resort has also hosted the PGA Seniors Championship for the past three years, which Eric Trump said “significantly raises the profile of the business internationally”.

The accounts show that staff numbers grew to 108, with associated costs rising by almost £300,000 to £2.6m, while administrative expenses fell by £100,000. US President Donald Trump was named as a person with significant control over the company earlier this year.

Despite the persistent losses, company leadership remains optimistic. Eric Trump expressed confidence in future “fiscal improvement”, citing the new course and additional luxury accommodation as strengthening the resort’s status as a “world-class visitor destination”.
