Tweed Wealth Management expands sports division with London launch

Tweed Wealth Management’s has opened a new office in London in response to growing demand for its tailored services for athletes.

The expansion of firm’s sports division, Tweed Sports, marks a significant milestone in the firm’s ambition to support more sports professionals with the financial literacy, planning and protection they need during and after their careers.

The London base will be led by former professional rugby player and Chartered Financial Planner, Jason Baggott, who co-heads Tweed Sports alongside Ross Penman.

Together, they have developed a unique approach to wealth management that recognises the short, high-earning and often volatile nature of professional sporting careers.

Mr Baggott said: “We’ve seen first-hand how an increasing number of athletes, particularly in football and rugby, are actively seeking specialist financial guidance to assist them during and after their careers.

“Our expansion into London allows us to work even more closely with a growing client base and their wider support networks – from agents and accountants to legal and media teams.

“Athletes deserve financial advice that’s bespoke to their world, along with clarity around its risks, rewards, and timelines. Our job is to help them maximise opportunities, avoid common pitfalls, and plan for long-term stability once they leave the field for the last time.”

The opening of the Tweed Sports London office comes in the wake of high-profile cases highlighting the importance of robust financial planning. Most recently, former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips was revealed to be facing bankruptcy, despite a successful and lucrative playing career.

Mr Baggott said: “A worrying proportion of athletes face financial difficulty within just a few years of retirement.

“This is rarely down to reckless spending alone – it’s often the result of inadequate advice, poor tax planning, and a lack of proactive support.

“We want to change that by offering comprehensive, holistic financial planning tailored to every stage of a sporting career.”

Based in the heart of London on Lombard Street, Tweed Sports offers a comprehensive suite of financial services tailored to the unique needs of professional athletes.

This includes specialist investment advice, retirement planning, inheritance tax strategies, mortgage and protection solutions. In addition, Tweed Sports collaborates closely with a trusted network of sports accountants and lawyers to deliver a seamless, end-to-end wealth management service for clients in the sporting world.

Already working with athletes across football, rugby and boxing, Tweed Sports is now focused on expanding its presence, particularly within golf, women’s football, cricket, and other rapidly growing professional sports.

The long-term vision is to develop the London office into a dedicated hub, supported by a full team of advisers - delivering a seamless, all-in-one financial service tailored specifically to the needs of sporting professionals.

Tweed Sports is part of Tweed Wealth Management – a Scotland financial advice firm, managing more than £500 million in assets and named the Best Financial Advice Firm in Scotland and Northern Ireland at the Professional Adviser Awards 2024.
