Wylie & Bisset take top honours at charity football tournament

Glasgow-based independent chartered accountants Wylie & Bisset has been celebrating after winning a charity football tournament to raise money for Radio Lollipop at the Royal Hospital for Children in the city.

W&B triumphed over 13 other teams in the event at Powerleague Glasgow, beating law firm Shepherd & Wedderburn in the final.

This is the 15th year that Wylie Bisset has organised its charity five-a-side football competition.

The 2017 tournament raised almost £800 for the charity Radio Lollipop, which also entered a team in the event.

Competing for the title alongside two Wylie & Bisset teams were players from Accountant in Bankruptcy, Shepherd & Wedderburn, Gilson Gray, Clydesdale Bank, Pinsent Masons, Harper Macleod, Macdonald Henderson, Shepherd Surveyors, Curle Stewart and Morisons Solicitors

Wylie & Bisset’s joint managing partner Ross McLauchlan, said: “Radio Lollipop is well-known for its work at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, helping to make a sometimes unwelcome stay easier for patients. Wylie & Bisset is proud to have the chance to help such an important charity and to contribute towards the wider wellbeing of the community that’s been our firm’s home since the business was founded.”

Joint managing partner Donald McKinnon added: “Like other workplaces in Glasgow, we take our footballseriously. Wylie Bisset might top the league in our business results, but we recognise that’s no guarantee of success on the football pitch. Licking the opposition might have brought us success on the pitch, but the real prize is raising money for Radio Lollipop so they can continue to entertain kids when they really need cheering up.”

Stuart White of Radio Lollipop said: “Charity football tournaments are meant to be fun and bring out the lighter side of corporate competition. Joking aside, we are really grateful for the support of the business community in Glasgow taking part in Wylie & Bisset’s tournament and raising much-needed funds for Radio Lollipop.”
