And finally… Book marks

A professor at the University of Toronto has made it a requirement for students to purchase his book and follow him on social media in order to receive participation marks.

And finally... Book marks

Several students have voiced their frustration at the professor’s system, leading one Reddit user, XdaZxz to post a photo of the breakdown of participation marks for the personal finance course.

The course, taught by sessional lecturer Mitchell Huynh, has 10% of the overall grade based on participation, blogTO reports.

Buying a physical copy of Mr Huynh’s latest book is listed as being worth 1% on the participation category. Following him on social media is worth a further 1% as well as connecting with him on LinkedIn.

Students enrolled on the course are also required to have the book signed by Mr Huynh for a further 1%.

One Reddit user wrote: “Presumably the book signing is so that students can’t buy a used copy.”
