And finally…travel ‘Supercard’ launched

SupercardForeign exchange provider Travelex has launched a new card and app combo for UK travellers allowing them to avoid overseas debit and credit card roaming fees and charges when spending abroad.

The new ‘Supercard’, which can be used wherever MasterCard cards are accepted, aims to prevent a post-holiday bank card bill shock by giving travellers the MasterCard wholesale exchange rate, meaning Travelex do not add any additional fees or charges when the card is used for spending in other countries.

With almost instant updates through the app, travellers can keep track on how much they spend and approximately how much they save.

The Supercard was introduced on a pilot basis last year and after a successful test, Travelex is now offering the product to the general public in the UK.

Sean Cornwell, Travelex’s Chief Digital Officer said: “At Travelex we’re on a mission to create innovative financial products to help our customers’ breakdown the borders that limit them from living internationally. Supercard provides them with the power to remove the boundaries they face when spending abroad meaning they can travel with the peace of mind of knowing they’re not getting charged fees and charges for spending with their UK bank cards abroad.”

Travelex also said it has partnered with Wirecard, a best in-class payments provider, to provide it with chip and pin protection and an instant cancellation facility through Supercard’s customer service team, should the card be lost or stolen.
