Aberdeen launches Macro Opportunities strategy to help investors build resilience

Maximilien Macmillan

Aberdeen Investments has launched the Macro Opportunities Fund, designed to help investors diversify portfolios and navigate increasingly complex market conditions.

The strategy is launching with $110m in assets under management and led by Maximilien Macmillan, head of macro investments, multi-asset. It will invest across a range of global opportunities, actively adjusting positions as economic and market conditions change.

Its diversified approach aims to provide resilience in challenging markets while capturing emerging opportunities.

The strategy is seeded through allocations from Aberdeen’s own multi-asset mandates, as investors navigate a more complex investment landscape and increasingly expect sources of return and diversification beyond traditional portfolio construction approaches.

The firm stated it has seen an increase in discretionary interest in its macro investment capabilities, managed by the same team and drawing on the same underlying research and investment philosophy.

Some $500m has been funded to the broader capability as a bespoke mandate by a sovereign wealth fund client.

Mr Macmillan, said:”Investors are operating in a market environment shaped by persistent inflation uncertainty, evolving monetary policy and heightened geopolitical risk. These forces are creating a broader range of outcomes across asset classes and increasing the importance of macroeconomic trends in driving investment returns.

“Macro Opportunities has been designed to help investors navigate that environment. By combining portfolio resilience with the ability to take targeted macro positions across global markets, the strategy seeks to provide differentiated sources of return and diversification while maintaining a disciplined approach to risk management.”

John McCareins, chief client officer at Aberdeen Investments, added: “Clients are increasingly focused on outcomes and are seeking investment solutions that can help meet a range of objectives across different market environments. As economic and market cycles become more complex, investors are looking for alternative approaches that can complement traditional asset allocations and access a broader opportunity set.

“The strategy launches with substantial assets already committed and there is a strong pipeline of interest from both internal and institutional investors. We believe macro investing is becoming an increasingly important component of portfolio construction as clients seek greater resilience and more diversified sources of return.”

The Macro Opportunities Fund is a daily dealing, Luxembourg domiciled sub-fund of abrdn SICAV I, which allows for access by institutional investors across a number of countries.
