AMS Accountants Group has revealed plans to create around 25 jobs in Aberdeen as it builds towards a £5m audit business in the city within the next three years. The move is part of a wider ambition to turn over more than £20m and have around 200 staff within the next five years.
The firm expanded its presence in the north-east following the acquisition of Aberdeen-based Infinity Partnership earlier this year and has now confirmed it is creating a new team to cope with the demand from businesses across the region.
AMS is expecting to fill the majority of the positions with experienced hires followed by a second planned recruitment wave with entry-level and graduate jobs later.
Steven Fraser, AMS regional managing partner, said: ”This is pretty much a brand new start for us. We have revenue because what we’ve done since we came into the market is we have secured work and it’s been delivered by our teams in Manchester.
“We’re now at that critical mass point where building the team here actually demonstrates our commitment to the region in terms of having someone on the ground that’s going to build and drive the team out.”
The firm also appointed Stephen McIlwaine to its Aberdeen audit team following more than 13 years with Johnston Carmichael advising energy, manufacturing and construction clients.
Mr McIlwaine said: “Aberdeen businesses are navigating significant change, particularly across energy, manufacturing and construction. AMS has the ambition, backing and client base to build a strong audit team here, and I’m excited to help lead that growth.”
“What we’ve found is there’s a market opportunity with the accountancy mid-tier market and it feels as though there’s just a place for that new entrant,” he said.
“I think the wins we’ve had since we came into the market demonstrate that. It’s not just going to be a sector focus piece. It’s going to be quite a lot of different sectors we’ve picked up already. We want to make sure we’ve got diversity in that portfolio as we grow.”
