And finally…1 in 79 Britons now a millionaire

One in every 79 Brits is now a millionaire, up from 1 in 84 last year, according to latest data from Barclays Wealth.

The figures, published in the bank’s UK Prosperity Map, show the UK’s millionaire population grew by 7.6 per cent year-on-year in 2016 as property prices continued their seemingly relentless rise.

The number of Britons over the age of 21 worth at least £1,000,000 increased by 44,000 over the past 12 months and by 142,500 since 2010.

Every region saw an increase in its number of millionaires since last year’s research, except Scotland, which saw no change as the oil price crash weighed on property prices.
