And finally…Apple drops £900 a month ‘Rich kids’ photo app

A clone of the popular photo sharing app Instagram that charged members £890 a month to use it in order to ensure all contributors were rich has been banned by Apple.

Makers of the ‘Rich Kids’ app had attempted to cash in on the gullibility and insatiable need to show-off of some wealthy social media users with the promise that it would “flush out the fakes from the real millionaires”.

However, the app’s launch had been branded disgusting, a scam and “everything that is wrong with this world”.

The app’s tag line was “If it’s too much for you, it’s not for you” but it still allowed those without the means to post pictures the privilege of logging in to watch from the sidelines for free – what is the point in showing off without an audience, presumably..?

Some members on the platform were given free subscriptions to get the ball rolling but Rich Kids insists that it does have users who have paid the €12,000 a year premium.

Describing the rationale behind the app, co-founder Juraj Ivan, said: “Yes, people can post pictures on other networks, but we give them real exclusivity by charging. Unlike other networks for the rich, we keep everything public as it’s no fun being so rich if others can’t see.”

Only six members appear to post frequently on the platform, but 25,000 people downloaded the app before it was scrapped last month — mostly the non-paying “silent” members who can only follow and “like” the rich kids’ posts.

Reacting to Apple’s decision to ditch the product, Mr Ivan said: “We can’t understand Apple’s decision.”

The app has been removed from the App Store, with sources close to the global technology giant saying that it had violated terms and conditions.

In a statement Fox Valley Apps, the creators of Rich Kids, said: “Rich Kids didn’t break any App Store guideline or rules and it was purely a decision of Apple’s review team which found the app inappropriate.”

‘Rich Kids’members can still continue to post the fascinating photographs of their yachts and private jets on the creators’ website and an Android version of the app is being developed.
