And finally... national sickie day costs economy £45 million

Around 350,000 people across the UK are expected to call in sick today, according to the Employment Law Association.

The so-called “National Sickie Day” is set to cost the economy up to £45 million in lost wages, hours and overtime.

The first Monday in February is statistically the day people are most likely to call in sick.

Research has found that the cold and dark - as well as ‘not feeling like going to work’ - are the most common reasons for pulling the late Winter sickie.
