And finally… record lot

And finally... record lot

Last month, a rare 14th-century French gothic cabinet set a new record for the most valuable work of art ever sold in Scotland.

The carved ivory cabinet sold for £1,455,000 at Lyon in Turnbull in Edinburgh.

Bidding for the piece began at £50,000 and lasted for ten minutes, The Courier reports.

The piece, made in around 1330, had been showcased at Tornaveen House in Aberdeenshire for four centuries.

The previous record for a single lot sold at a Scottish auction was the £1 million bid for a bottle of The Macallan 1926 sold by Whisky Auctioneer of Perth in February this year.
