And finally…fintech ends horror of queuing for pints
Budget pub chain Wetherspoons has launched an ‘order and pay’ app, available on smartphones that allows you to order your drinks directly to your table.
Sedentary users of iPhone and Android devices simply tell the app where they’re sitting, what food and/or drink they’d like, and the bar staff pick up the request and bring it over.
Pub goers can scroll through the chain’s food and drink menus and access the usual promotions and discounts.
The app, called Wetherspoon Order and Pay, was initially trialled at a select few pubs but is now available across the chain’s 900 pub network in the UK and Ireland.
According to Wetherspoon’s website, the app is great for a variety of customers, including those who want to enjoy a meal with youngsters, but cannot leave them unattended to go to the bar to order.
It said the app could also be useful if you are on your own and don’t want to lose your table, or if you’re not very mobile, or are sitting a long way from the bar and are unable to easily negotiate a busy pub.
“’Simple to use, the app has a scrolling menu feature, making it easy to browse the Wetherspoon menu (including club deals) and place your order,’ a spokesperson said on the Wetherspoon’s website.
“It also has a reorder function, to repeat your favourite purchases, for quickness and ease.”
