And finally…‘lost’ Jaguar to fetch £170,000
A rare vintage car that had been thought lost only to turn up in the garage owner in rural Moray who didn’t know what it was is now expected to be fetch £170,000 at auction.
The Jaguar E-type car was thought to be missing for decades until its current owner was approached by an auction house who explained its cult following -and exceptional value.
The 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster, chassis #62, was one of the first right-hand models of the car built and has been sought after by motor enthusiasts ever since.
Many of the initial 92 were built for racing use but were offered to car dealerships as demonstrator models.
The car was taken to Scotland in July of 1961 as a demonstration vehicle but was forbidden from being sold until September of that year.
It was eventually sold to its first owner in the Edinburgh area and was passed around Scotland until it came into the possession of its fifth owner in Deskford, Moray.
The Jaguar will be sold by Silverstone Auctions at the Silverstone Classic racing event on July 30 and 31.
Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, said: “This is a really exciting discovery.
“Not only was this car believed to be lost, it is one of the most sought after E-Type examples attainable.”
The Carmen red vehicle with a black interior is expected to sell for around £140,000 and £170,000 and remains in excellent condition.
