And finally…Scots spending £4,000 a year at work and blame colleagues
Office workers in Scotland who feel stressed-out, run-down and over-worked are frittering money away on snacks, clothes and even holidays while on the clock to help ease work angst, according to new research.
A study from online shopping site TopCashback.co.uk has revealed that people are lacking motivation at work with more than two-fifths (43 per cent) browsing clothing sites to ease their boredom and 41 per cent day-dreaming about the sun while looking for holidays at their desk.
Four in 10 (40 per cent) workers in Scotland head to the shops for snacks as an excuse to get out of the office and 30 per cent use online shopping as a mental break throughout the day.
Consumers in Scotland find themselves easily influenced by their colleagues with 47 per cent joining in on the snack run or an online shop simply because their co-workers are.
Blogs, magazines, and newspapers are also to blame with nearly half (48 per cent) buying items they have seen while flicking through their favourite titles.
However, it is not just the occasional purchases that consumers need to worry about with a third (33 per cent) admitting to buying items every day.
The most popular time to splash cash is at lunchtime, between 12pm and 1pm, and 34 per cent of consumers in Scotland shop during the afternoon slump.
It seems people are not clueless about their splurging with around half (48 per cent) acknowledging they overspend during the 9-to-5, with the majority (67 per cent) spending on impulse rather than budgeting.
The 3pm snack attack, constant office deliveries and spontaneous bookings do not come cheap with consumers spending up to a staggering £79 a week on clothes, snacks, beauty treatments and tickets.
