And finally…third of Scots check-up on value of friends’ properties (w/quiz)

Almost one in three Scots (29 per cent) have checked up on the value of a friend, family member’s, or neighbour’s property, using an online property valuation tool, according to a new survey.

And whether motivated by envy or just plain curiosity, the findings of estate agents Keatons after surveying 2,000 UK home owners revealed that across the UK as a whole 36 per cent of Brits have had a sneaky peek over the property market’s garden fence.

The results also showed men are more likely to check out the competition, while, regionally, those in the East Midlands (44 per cent) are most likely to be sniffing around their neighbours’ property prices, followed by North West (41 per cent) and North East & South East (39 per cent).

Those in the East are the least interested in finding out the value of property of their neighbours with less than a quarter (24 per cent) of them having a nosey.

However, with the most important property value to know our own, and even without specifically searching, over half of Brits (53 per cent) said they know exactly how much their place is worth.

The survey also revealed robust optimism among homeowners about house future prices, with nearly a third (32 per cent) feeling the value of their property will go up this year. And of those still unfazed by Trump or Brexit, 64 per cent are from the East of England.

A Keatons spokesperson said: “It’s a very British thing, to be preoccupied with property and prices.”
