Aon Glasgow colleague triumphs at national insurance awards

Mhairi Lowson

Mhairi Lowson, a senior claims management executive at Aon plc’s Glasgow offices, was named Insurance Practitioner Apprentice of the Year at the 2025 Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and Personal Finance Society (PFS) awards.

These prestigious awards recognise excellence and celebrate the hard work and success of insurance and personal finance apprentices, their employers, and training providers across the UK.

Ms Lowson, 28, from Glasgow, was nominated by Aon after successfully attaining her CII Level 3 Insurance Practitioner apprenticeship. She attended the awards ceremony at the historic Westminster Hall, the oldest building in Parliament.

Selected as one of five finalists in her category, Ms Lowson secured the top honour, receiving a £500 cash prize, a certificate, and the title of Insurance Practitioner Apprentice of the Year, which she will hold for the next 12 months.

She said: “My award was the first of 19 categories to be announced and when my name was read out, I was really surprised as I didn’t expect to win!

“It’s great to have my work recognised on a national level among my peers. Without the backing of Aon and support from my apprenticeship coach, this wouldn’t have been possible, and I cannot thank them enough.

“I’d encourage anyone currently studying to speak up, tell their employer how they’re progressing and put themselves forward for consideration to be nominated. It’s important that people are recognised for their hard work.”

Nikki McCulloch, head of claims at Aon, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Mhairi. This is a remarkable achievement and one that is thoroughly deserved.

“Ever since Mhairi joined Aon she has given her very best in everything she has done, both in her studies and work with clients. Well done Mhairi; you have a bright future ahead of you.”
