Armstrong Watson is celebrating double success after Reward Strategy recognised two members of its payroll leadership team in its Partner 75 community - which features the UK’s top 0.1% of payroll professionals.
Partner and head of payroll, Karen Thomson, and payroll manager, Lisa Carruthers, have been named among the most influential people in the industry in 2026, as the Partner 75 accolade recognises an exclusive group of professionals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, influence, and innovation.
Karen Thomson, who was previously recognised in the Partner 50 in 2025, has more than 30 years’ payroll experience and is widely recognised as one of the UK’s most influential payroll professionals. Alongside leading Armstrong Watson’s award-winning payroll service, she holds a number of influential positions across the profession, including chair of the CIPP’s Special Interest Group representing Accountancy Payroll Bureaus and Vice Chair of Local Government Pensions Scheme (Cumberland).

She also sits on a number of forums including: HMRC policies, Admin Burdens Advisory Board, the Employment Payment Group, CIOT Payroll Employment Tax and ICAS Payroll Employment Tax.
With more than 15 years’ experience, Lisa has established herself as a highly-respected payroll leader within Armstrong Watson, recognised for her professionalism, technical expertise and commitment to delivering exceptional service to clients and colleagues.
