Bankruptcy Bill supported by committee

MSPs on the Delegated Powers and Law Reform committee have recommended that the Bankruptcy (Scotland) Bill should proceed as a consolidation bill, in a report published today.

The Bankruptcy (Scotland) Bill is what is known as a consolidation bill and it is the first such bill to be referred to this committee. A consolidation bill brings together various enactments into one piece of legislation, making the law clearer and more accessible.

The committee, which has been scrutinising the legislation at stage one of the legislative process, found that there was a strong argument in favour of the consolidation of bankruptcy legislation. The committee therefore recommends to the Parliament that the Bill should proceed as a consolidation bill.
