BrewDog partners with Budweiser to expand China presence

BrewDog has formed a joint venture with Budweiser in China to ramp up its operations in the country.

The deal will see its beers produced at Budweiser China’s Putian craft brewery by the end of March 2023. Currently, China accounts for less than 1% of Brewdog’s overall sales. Despite BrewDog operating an international network of more than 110 bars, it has only one location in China which it opened in Shanghai in 2020.

A spokesperson for BrewDog said: “China is one of those markets where you really need to work with an established partner who has a sales and distribution infrastructure in place and local market knowledge.

“That’s why we’re really pleased to have signed a partnership agreement with Bud China to enable us to fast track our Chinese business.

“Craft beer is growing massively in China – the market is about ten times bigger than it was a decade ago – so this is a huge deal for our business and our ambitions going forward.”

The firm also revealed that it plans to open up to ten new BrewDog bars in China over the next five years.
