Scottish dental group Clyde Munro has announced a three-year multi-million-pound investment plan that will secure the growth and development of its portfolio of dental practices.

The group currently cares for around 500,000 patients across Scotland. As part of its plans, the business has announced the appointment of Chris Howell as chairman.

Mr Howell is an experienced business leader with a proven track record in executive and advisory roles across high-profile, complex organisations, including Kodak Alaris, D&D London, and Bensons For Beds. With significant expertise, both in the UK and internationally, working closely with private equity and financial institutions, his appointment will further strengthen the group’s leadership.

Clyde Munro will implement an expansive growth strategy designed to improve patient access and care across Scotland. The strategy will focus on enhancing practice infrastructure and continued investment in learning and development using its state-of-the-art advanced dentistry academy in Perth. It will also advance the group’s industry-leading use of digital and AI technology and support recruitment plans in the next three years.

The group remains committed to providing exceptional service to patients across Scotland. It currently has approximately 850 team members including dentists, practice and support teams across the country, with 65 dental practices stretching from Orkney in the north to Maybole in south Ayrshire.

As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of care and expanding its clinical and practice teams, Clyde Munro has confirmed it will welcome 18 new dentists to its practices this year, making significant strides to improve patient access in both urban and rural locations. This includes recruiting in rural areas where access to dental care can be more challenging. An example of the groups success so far is the substantial growth of its Fort William practice, which is now the biggest in the group, with 13 clinicians and a further two joining in August.

In addition to expanding its team, Clyde Munro is prioritising the development of its people through new training programmes. This includes using the Clyde Munro Training Academy to offer early career dentists and therapists the chance to enhance their skills.

The investment will support significant infrastructure development, including the expansion and refurbishment of existing practices to accommodate new dentists and surgeries. In areas where current premises are no longer suitable for future growth, Clyde Munro will work to secure new premises to support the group’s ongoing success.

Jim Hall, CEO, Clyde Munro, said: “We have always been focused on improving access to high-quality dental care across Scotland. The sector has had its challenges with the shortage of dentists of late , but we have remained committed to navigating these. This new strategy is a testament to ensuring that more patients across the whole of Scotland can receive excellent care.

“We are excited to welcome Chris as Chair and believe his experience and input will be invaluable as we embark on this next stage of growth and development.”

Mr Howell added: “I am delighted to be working with such a great business where the entire organisation is deeply committed to improving access to quality dental care across Scotland.”
