Clydebank Municipal Bank celebrates centenary
Scotland’s oldest municipal bank – and one of just two in the whole country – has celebrated its centenary.

Clydebank Municipal Bank was officially opened on 22 June 1921, having been agreed by Clydebank Town Council in May 1920.
The bank provides a savings facility to residents of West Dunbartonshire and beyond and recently introduced a telephone banking facility for the first time.
Board members, including West Dunbartonshire’s Provost William Hendrie and elected members from Clydebank Central and Waterfront wards, gathered at the Titan Crane to commemorate the milestone 100th anniversary.
Provost Hendrie, chairman of Clydebank Municipal Bank, said: “This milestone marks a century of residents trusting the Municipal Bank to invest their money securely until they need to access it again.
“I would encourage anyone who is looking to open an account to get in touch as it is an easy process and a great, secure way to save money. I would also like to thank all our customers who have accounts with us, as their custom has helped us achieve this great milestone.”
