Companies will need to re-apply for Royal Warrants after the passing of the Queen

Companies and brands holding Royal Warrants will have to reapply as the certification is set to become invalid following the passing of the Queen and the change of sovereign.

There are currently an estimated 875 Royal Warrants held by 800 or so companies and individuals. Anywhere from 20 to 40 brands are granted a Royal Warrant each year, and a similar amount lose their warrant each year according to the Royal Warrant Holders Association (RWHA).

The RWHA’s website also noted that even though the Royal Warrant will become void, “the company or individual may continue to use the Royal Arms in connection with the business for up to two years, provided there is no significant change within the company concerned.”

Brands such as Laphroaig whisky, Walkers Shortbread, Johnston’s of Elgin and even Angus Chainsaws are amongst those that have received the certificate of quality from the late Queen. These company’s warrants and all others will be reviewed by the Royal Household in due time.

Other Scottish companies with Royal Warrants include: Hunter Boots, Johnnie Walker, Gordon’s Gin, and Braemar Mountain Sports to name a few.
