Melinda Illes, director of property sales at estate and lettings agency DJ Alexander, hosted the ‘Against All Odds’ event at the firms’ Edinburgh office reflecting the history and importance of Scottish women’s football.
It was attended by Rose Reilly, former Scottish and Italian international player; Fiona Skillen, the co-editor of a history of Scottish women’s football called “A most unsuitable (sic) beautiful game”; and Ann Park, head of Commercial Operations at Hearts FC.
The aim was to show how football has enabled women to achieve great things and how lessons from sport can be used in all walks of life. As Ms Illes explained: “Rose has shown us, that with hard work, resilience, determination and passion, we can achieve the wildest of our dreams and against all odds.”
Property has traditionally been a male dominated sector, but DJ Alexander now employs more women than men. The event was held at DJ Alexander’s office at the John Cotton Centre, Sunnyside, Edinburgh which is on the site of the first Scottish Women’s International in 1881 with Scotland beating England 3-0.
