Dunedin Advisory appointed to wind up Mitchell's Of Castle Douglas

Jill Glen and Christine Convy

Licensed insolvency practitioners Christine Convy and Jill Glen of Dunedin Advisory Limited have been appointed joint liquidators of Mitchell’s Of Castle Douglas Limited, the long-established greengrocer that ceased trading on 8 April 2026.

The business, which operated from premises in Castle Douglas, had struggled in recent years following the arrival of major supermarkets in the town over the past decade. The increased competition led to a significant fall in trade from which the company never recovered.

The directors invested personal savings in an effort to keep the business going, but this proved insufficient. Members subsequently agreed to place the company into liquidation, with the appointment confirmed by the deemed consent of creditors.

The company employed an average of eight staff in recent years, all of whose contracts were terminated on 8 April 2026. The liquidators’ office is contacting affected employees to help them submit claims through the Redundancy Payments Service.

The joint liquidators will approach various stakeholders for information to support their enquiries and to establish whether any recoveries can be made for the benefit of creditors.
