Energy specialist Gensource expand into new East Lothian HQ

Musselburgh-based sustainable energy specialist Gensource has expanded into a new headquarters in response to growing demand.

Measuring over 1200 sq. ft., the firm’s new base in Newhailes Business Centre is more than double the size of its original home in the East Lothian town.

The move comes after three years of sustained growth for the business, which specialises in turnkey sustainable energy solutions, covering everything from consultancy and design to construction, operation and maintenance.

The firm was established by co-founders Josh King and Robert Wilson in December 2022 and recently won High Growth Business of the Year at the 2025 Midlothian and East Lothian Business Awards.

Staffing levels now sit around the 20 mark, with plans in place to add to that number in the coming 12 months as the firm serves a growing client base throughout Scotland.

Mr Wilson, Gensource’s commercial and operations director, said: “The move is an exciting development for us and affords us more space and room to grow further.

“It reflects how we have evolved since starting out and demonstrates our maturity as a business.

“We have set ambitious targets since starting out and have successfully delivered against them. Our bigger headquarters gives us the flexibility to keep expanding and continue that trend.”

Current clients include the Eastern Western Motor Group, the City of Edinburgh Council and the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS), with 2026 promising further success as Gensource continues to focus on providing clients with full turnkey sustainable energy solutions.

“The nature of the commercial contracts we are winning is very encouraging and is a big endorsement of the work everyone at Gensource is doing,” Mr Wilson added.

“We are genuinely excited about the future. We are proud of our ability to stay on the cutting edge of technology and thanks to our new expanded headquarters, we look forward to growing with confidence in the years to come.

“The challenge of rising energy costs combined with trying to reduce carbon is very real for businesses and motivates us to keep focused on our mission to help clients meet their sustainability objectives.”
