Female employment rate is the highest since records began

Latest figures show that the female employment rate in Scotland is the highest since comparable records began.

The Annual Population Survey published today shows a positive picture for Scottish employment over the year, up to December 2015.

The publication produced by the Scottish Government show that:

Cabinet Secretary for Fair Work, Skills and Training Roseanna Cunningham said: It is really good news that our female employment rate is the highest since records began in 2004 and we are seeing improvements across much of the country.

“These figures show that we are continuing to move in the right direction but are a reminder that there are parts of Scotland still reeling from the effects of the recession. We need to look beyond the topline figures to see what we can do to get more people into work and ensure that help is reaching where it is needed most.

“There can be no complacency and we will continue to do everything we can to grow the economy, increase employment and lower unemployment, despite the tough choices needed to be taken in the Scottish budget due to ongoing Westminster austerity.”
