First Minister John Swinney and Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes will be attending Scotland’s Global Investment Summit in Edinburgh, hosted by Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE) and the Lord Mayor of London.

They will join other high-profile attendees – including the Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey – at the landmark event, which is the first of its kind to be staged in Scotland and aims to attract significant international investment into Scotland’s economy.

The summit, which is taking place on October 6 and October 7 at the Royal Bank of Scotland’s conference centre at Gogarburn, will bring together industry, global investors, government and regulators to showcase Scotland’s world-leading financial services, energy and life sciences sectors.

The First Minister and Deputy First Minister will address attendees at the gathering in Scotland’s capital.

Confirming his attendance, the First Minister, John Swinney MSP, said: “My government is fully committed to attracting global investment, which in turn will lead to a growing, prosperous economy.

“This landmark summit demonstrates that Scotland is open, ready, and ambitious about building partnerships that deliver impact.

“Bringing together senior leaders from government, finance, and industry, this summit is an opportunity to showcase our country’s many strengths — from innovation and infrastructure to our world-class talents.

“I am grateful to our partners at the City of London Corporation and Scottish Financial Enterprise for bringing this world-class event to Scotland.”

Sandy Begbie CBE, chief executive of SFE, added: “Scotland’s Global Investment Summit will bring together some of the biggest names in UK and international finance, and I am absolutely delighted that the First Minister and Deputy First Minister have both agreed to join them.

“Co-hosted by the Lord Mayor of London and Scottish Financial Enterprise, the summit will showcase Scotland’s world-class key growth sectors, including financial and professional services, energy and life sciences.

“With just over a week to go, it is fantastic to see the growing enthusiasm for this significant event for the Scottish and UK economy.”

The Lord Mayor of London, Alastair King DL, said: “Scotland has a rich history of innovation and global leadership. It has shaped the global financial system, providing significant advances in life sciences and renewable technology - and our goal is to make sure international investors are now aware of our future opportunities too.

“Scotland today stands at the forefront of the global net zero transition, is a leader in health tech and research, and has a thriving financial and professional services industry.

“Scotland’s Global Investment Summit will provide investors with a unique insight and direct connections to the opportunities that can be found in our key sectors.”

Other speakers at the summit include Mr Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England since 2020, as well as Alastair King DL, the Lord Mayor of London, Nikhil Rathi, Chief Executive of the Financial Conduct Authority, Stephen Dainton, Barclays Investment Bank and Professor Juergen Maier CBE, Chair of Great British Energy.

The UK government’s ministerial participation will be announced shortly.
