Financial leader and arts advocate John Taylor has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Edinburgh International Festival.

Formerly president of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, he brings a wealth of experience from senior roles at the Bank of England and as a governor of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Mr Taylor’s appointment is one of five new additions to the board, announced as the 2025 Festival gets underway. He is joined by experts in diplomacy, government, media, and technology, who will help steer the organisation towards its 80th anniversary in 2027. His background provides a unique blend of high-level financial expertise with a proven commitment to the arts in Scotland.

Sir Keith Skeoch, chair of the Edinburgh International Festival, welcomed the new trustees, stating their collective experience would be invaluable as the organisation evolves. “We are delighted to welcome such a distinguished group of individuals to our board,” he said. “Their global experience and diverse perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to evolve as an organisation. As we look towards our 80th anniversary in 2027, this is a pivotal moment to both honour our rich legacy and embrace the opportunities ahead.”

The new appointments aim to strengthen the festival’s mission to foster cultural understanding and enhance its role as a bridge between Scotland and the wider world.
