Glasgow Tesco Bank colleagues raise £43,000 for children's charity

After a hugely successful year of fundraising and volunteering, Tesco Bank is delighted to announce raising £43,000 for its 2017/18 charitable partnership with the Glasgow-based charity, Birth, Baby & Beyond.

Established in 2012, Birth, Baby & Beyond has evolved into a hugely important charity in Glasgow supporting a large number of families who face financial hardship and need support to ensure their children remain clean and safe.

Throughout the year, Tesco Bank colleagues have participated in a number of key events supporting Birth, Baby & Beyond including a joint-effort with colleagues in Newcastle to climb Ben Nevis, a race night organised for colleagues, as well as volunteering a large amount of time working in Birth, Baby & Beyond’s warehouse to sort donations and help build cots and check prams before they are distributed to those in need.

Natasha Earle from Birth, Baby & Beyond, said: “Working in partnership with Tesco Bank for 2017/18 has been an amazing experience for Birth, Baby & Beyond. Everyone from Tesco Bank has been immensely supportive, enthusiastic and professional over the duration of the partnership. Their volunteering support has helped us complete large tasks that we couldn’t have done with out them.

“The funds raised over the year will allow BB&B to greatly improve the service we provide to families in need for at least a two year period. The Starter Packs we currently provide families in Glasgow are a mixture of new and used essential baby and child items, all of which are donated to the charity.

“Thanks to the funds Tesco Bank has raised over the last year we are able to provide at least one new essential baby item such as a new Pram, New Cot or Moses Basket. This is a wonderful improvement to the service the charity provides and one that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Tesco Bank.”

Tesco Bank’s head of Glasgow, Karen Chalmers, said: “Working with and supporting the local communities in which we serve is vitally important to Tesco Bank, and the manner in which colleagues have embraced our fundraising and volunteering this year has been nothing short of inspirational.

“Working with Birth, Baby & Beyond has been terrific, and we very much hope the money raised will go a long way to supporting the brilliant work that they do.”

Carol Monaghan, Member of Parliament for Glasgow North West, said: “I’m delighted to hear that Tesco Bank has raised £43,000 for its charitable partnership with Birth, Baby and Beyond, more than double their initial target.

“Just a few doors down from my constituency office, I have seen first-hand the invaluable work Birth, Baby and Beyond are doing to support families and babies in need across Glasgow. Their Starter Packs, complementing the Scottish Government’s Baby Box initiative, provides some of the essentials for the early months of a new baby’s life, and these practical and important means of support ensure every baby born in Scotland gets the best possible start.

“I thank Tesco, its employees and customers who have contributed either financially or voluntarily to support the charity, and look forward to hearing about their continued successful partnership.”
