Grant Thornton to wind up Glasgow haulage firm following HMRC petition
A Glasgow-based road haulage firm, Specialist Haulage Hire, has entered compulsory liquidation following a petition from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
The legal action, presented to Glasgow Sheriff Court by the Advocate General for Scotland, resulted in the Sandyford Place company being wound up due to insolvency.
Julie Tait of Grant Thornton UK has been appointed as the liquidator to oversee the orderly dissolution of the business. Her primary duties involve assessing the firm’s remaining assets and liabilities to satisfy outstanding creditors.
While the liquidation process usually involves freezing accounts and halting all trade, a spokesperson for Grant Thornton confirmed that the company had no active employees at the time of the appointment. The spokesperson also confirmed that no claims for unpaid wages have been lodged, and further details regarding the firm’s financial standing will be released as the statutory investigation progresses.
