Edinburgh-based private bank Hampden & Co has added further professional diversity to their banking team by appointing George Grierson.

While Mr Grierson is an experienced banker, having worked for Lloyds Bank for nearly 30 years, including 5 years leading their Private Client business in Scotland, he has also worked outside of finance including recent spells at the creative agency Guy & Co, and the charity CHSS.

Mr Grierson said: “The opportunity to work for a bank that is focused on providing deep and supportive relationships, and helping clients solve all sorts of different challenges, is really refreshing. From my experience working across the private, public and charity sectors I have seen how problems can be approached from different perspectives, and how often the solution can be something as simple as making connections between the right people, although clearly having a bank’s resources can help too.”

Graeme Hartop, CEO of Hampden & Co said “We are seeing demand from clients of traditional private banks, who are not getting the level of individual support they expect. Our banking team have been doing a great job at demonstrating to these clients that they are right to expect great service and it is still available in this day and age. George will be a great addition to our already formidable team, and I’m delighted he is joining us.”

Asked about how the bank is growing, Hartop added: “The growth in client numbers and our balance sheet has been strong, and I’ll be able to share more details of that when we release our first full year’s results in a few weeks’ time. I will say that one area of interest I had not anticipated has been the huge interest we have had from the banking community, and the volumes of people interested in joining us is a massive compliment.”

Hampden & Co opened in June 2015 for a clientele of high net worth individuals and their families.

The bank has offices in London and Edinburgh and is chaired by Ray Entwistle, the former CEO and Chairman of Adam & Co.
