The House of Bruar has reported pre-tax profits of £3.5 million on record turnover of £51.2m for the year to 29 January 2025, marking the first time the Perthshire luxury retailer has broken through the £50m sales barrier in its 30-year history.
The Highland shopping destination, which sits beside the A9 near Blair Atholl, has seen strong growth both in its physical store and through direct shopping channels.
Online and catalogue sales now account for nearly 60% of total turnover, with sales to customers in the United States doubling over the past 12 months following the launch of its first American-focused catalogue in autumn 2024.
Managing director Patrick Birkbeck, whose parents Mark and Linda Birkbeck founded the business on the site of an abandoned hotel in 1995, said the results reflected the hard work of his team across what remains a challenging retail environment. He noted that the expansion of the spring and summer clothing collection had allowed the business to serve loyal customers throughout the year, adding to its well-established reputation for tweed, tartan and pure wool knitwear.
The company, which employs more than 330 people across its stores, offices and warehouse, attracts more than two million visitors annually — more than Edinburgh Zoo. As well as its clothing and food hall, the site houses an art gallery and a 600-seat restaurant. An on-site bakery opened last August, following a £2m expansion completed in 2023.
