International conference highlights healthy Scottish investment interest

Investment interest in Scottish property and land remains healthy on the international stage, according to Lindsays.
Louise Norris, commercial property partner at Lindsays, says potential investors are closely monitoring the potential in key sectors such as renewable energy, data centres, housing and town centre regeneration.
Ms Norris spoke after forming part of a team from the independent firm who attended MIPIM, the annual global real estate conference held in Cannes, France.
There was a strong Scottish presence at the event – which attracted more than 25,000 delegates – including representatives from the Scottish Government, local authorities and investment agencies.
The conference is viewed as a significant opportunity to highlight opportunities to major global investors as well as to analyse market trends.
Ms Norris said: “I thought it was a really positive MIPIM generally - and particularly from the Scottish perspective.
“There were a lot of conversations about the opportunities available in Scotland where the conditions for projects are right and the necessary infrastructure is in place. The level of interest in investment is healthy.
“Opportunities in renewables were widely discussed, as were those around potential investment in data centres and, of course, the housing industry.
“Scotland was well represented. The message was clear that Scotland is open for business and to discuss opportunities.”
The conference took place in the immediate aftermath of the devastating Union Street fire in Glasgow city centre.
Images from that incident formed part of discussions around the challenges and opportunities presented by town centre regeneration and historic buildings.
Ms Norris, a Glasgow-based lawyer, added: “Investors are keen to understand the opportunities around the future of town and city centre buildings.
“While there are challenges, there are opportunities emerging around retrofitting older buildings.
“The scenes from Union Street were a stark reminder of the critical need to protect both the history of landmark buildings, while ensuring they can play a positive part in the future as well - potentially through a mix of commercial and residential use.”
The other Lindsays lawyers at MIPIM 2026 were Derek Nash (partner and head of commercial property), John Bett (partner and head of dispute resolution and litigation), Alastair Goodman (partner, commercial property) and Gavin Buchan (partner, banking and finance).
