Interpath pursues Mone and Barrowman in bid to recover PPE Medpro millions

The liquidators of collapsed PPE supplier PPE Medpro have launched legal action against a number of individuals and companies, including Baroness Michelle Mone and her husband Doug Barrowman, as they seek to recover millions of pounds owed to the UK Government.

Interpath Advisory, which was appointed as joint liquidator after PPE Medpro entered liquidation in December 2025, is pursuing claims against six individuals and five companies connected to the business.

The move comes after the Government won a £122 million court judgment against the company, plus interest, over a contract to supply surgical gowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.

PPE Medpro secured lucrative government contracts in 2020 as demand for personal protective equipment surged. One of its first deals, to supply face masks, was awarded through the Government’s controversial “VIP lane” after a recommendation from Baroness Mone, then a Conservative peer in the House of Lords.

However, the Government later took legal action over a separate contract for sterile surgical gowns, arguing the products failed to meet required healthcare standards. In 2024, the High Court ruled in favour of the Government, finding PPE Medpro had failed to demonstrate that the gowns had undergone a validated sterilisation process.

Although the Government secured the judgment, questions remained over how the money would be recovered as PPE Medpro held less than £1 million in assets before entering liquidation, BBC News reports.

Barrowman and Mone were not directors of the company and for years denied any involvement. However, Barrowman later confirmed he was the ultimate beneficial owner of PPE Medpro, while Mone acknowledged she benefited from a trust that received some of the company’s profits.

Among those named in the legal action are four former PPE Medpro directors, including accountant Arthur Lancaster, a business associate of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
