Johnston Carmichael backs young talent with Tall Ships sponsorship

Johnston Carmichael has pledged its support for the prestigious Tall Ships Races in Aberdeen by sponsoring a sail trainee place for a young person living in the local area.

The sponsorship will give a person aged between 15 and 25 in the AB postcode the chance to take part in the experience of a lifetime, sailing aboard one of the majestic Tall Ships as part of the big event later this month.

Dozens of vessels from around the world will take part, and hundreds of thousands of people are expected to enjoy the four-day event. The organisers say they expect it to be the biggest tourist event in Scotland this year.

The initiative aligns with Johnston Carmichael’s commitment to social mobility and its JC Futures strategy, which supports young people in accessing opportunities that can shape their future.

The sponsored trainee will join hundreds of young people from around the world to crew a Tall Ship, gaining valuable life skills such as teamwork, resilience and independence in an unforgettable setting.

David Wilson, Office Managing Partner at Johnston Carmichael Aberdeen, said: “We’re delighted to be part of such an iconic event taking place right here in Aberdeen.

“The Tall Ships Races are not only visually spectacular but provide a unique personal development opportunity for young people. Supporting a local trainee aligns perfectly with our values and our belief in opening doors for future generations through initiatives like our JC Futures apprenticeships.”

Hollie Weatherhead, Sail Trainee Manager at Aberdeen City Council, added: “We’re grateful to Johnston Carmichael for supporting the Tall Ships programme.

“This kind of sponsorship plays a vital role in helping young people from all backgrounds to take part, ensuring the event has a lasting legacy beyond the summer.”

The Tall Ships Races Aberdeen 2025 promises to be a highlight of the city’s summer calendar, welcoming vessels and visitors from across the globe to the Granite City’s harbour from Saturday 19 to Tuesday 22 July. More information is available at www.tallshipsaberdeen.com.
