Edinburgh investment house Martin Currie has strengthened its US Institutional business team with the appointment of Andy Hahn as vice president, North America, sales and client service.

A US national, Mr Hahn joins from CQS, a global multi-strategy firm, where he worked in the capacity of Principal, Business Development and Consultant Relations Director.

Prior to that and based in San Fransisco, he has held similar roles at GLG Partners, Panagora Asset Management and Lazard.

Remaining in San Francisco, Mr Hahn will report directly to Martin Currie’s executive vice president, head of North America, Mel Bucher.

Recruited to enhance the US sales team’s distribution capabilities, the firm said Mr Hahn brings with him a proven record of raising institutional assets in both long only equities and alternatives.

With over 16 years’ investment experience, he has developed a well-established network of contacts in the West Coast of the United States which will open up a new opportunity set for Martin Currie and enable the asset manager, as a global equity specialist, to further develop a pipeline of interest from institutional investors in the US Western region, the firm said.

Mel Bucher, executive vice president, head of North America at Martin Currie, said: “The size and scale of the US pension market offers a significant opportunity for our business and a deep pool for asset gatherers. Our ambition is to build on the presence we have established on the east coast, and in the mid west of the US, by having an experienced well-connected business development sales professional, to capitalise on relationships he has already developed with distributors and consultants in the region.”

Martin Currie manages US$19bn and has a growing US public plan client base with wide recognition of its emerging market equity capabilities.
