Moray Chamber of Commerce to host Scotland Against Modern Slavery event

The Scotland Against Modern Slavery (SAMS) campaign’s Transparency in Supply Chains event, is being co-hosted by the Moray Chamber of Commerce and will be held at Johnston’s of Elgin coffee shop.

Shan Saba, a Brightwork director who will be speaking at the event said: “Brightwork has been dedicating time and resources to the fight against Modern Slavery as part of our on-going commitment to our policy of Corporate Social Responsibility. We believe in using our influence to make Scotland a better and safer place.

“Our experience in recruitment, particularly in the food, drink and hospitality industries, gives us a unique insight into the tell-tale signs of slave labour. Sharing that knowledge far and wide is important in the battle against modern slavery.”

Georgia Dunk, events and membership executive at Moray Chamber of Commerce, said: “With modern slavery an ever-present issue, especially in supply chains for the food and drink industry, we are proud to be able to help counter this scourge.”

The event will feature speakers including Detective Inspector Chris Lewis, formerly of Police Scotland National Human Trafficking Unit, Gordon Smith of the Scottish Government’s Human Trafficking Team, Ewan Stafford of Harper Macleod LLP and Paula Ritchie, of Johnston’s of Elgin.

Each speaker has broad and relevant ‘real-world’ experience of differing aspects of this topic and will be speaking on safeguarding, due diligence, and practical action which companies can take both nationally and globally.

Invitations to the event, which will include refreshments, have been extended to all Moray Chamber members and Brightwork clients.
