Nationwide expanding Scottish presence

Nationwide expanding Scottish presence

Nationwide is expanding in Glasgow.

Nationwide has underlined its commitment to Scotland as it expands its presence at Glasgow’s largest office building.

From spring 2027, Nationwide will take a further two floors of office space at 177 Bothwell Street - bringing the total to five - with around 3000 staff based there as it grows its business banking operation.

The former Virgin Money headquarters, which will also be rebranded to Nationwide later this year, is one of Glasgow’s most sustainable buildings, using 100 per cent renewable energy from a South Lanarkshire wind farm, with zero-carbon emissions.

Dame Debbie Crosbie, CEO of Nationwide Building Society, said: “Scotland is central to Nationwide’s future growth and our Bothwell Street office is at its heart.

“We are already connected to a large number of families and businesses in Scotland and we’re looking forward to bringing the benefits of the UK’s biggest building society and largest branch network to even more Scottish communities.”

Stephen Flynn, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Transport in Scotland, said: “Glasgow has a strong international reputation as a financial centre and I am delighted Nationwide is making Bothwell Street home of its Scottish operations, investing in the people and the place to support future growth and innovation.”

Nationwide now has Scotland’s largest branch network, with a total of 80 branches across the country. This includes 44 Nationwide and 36 Virgin Money branches, which will all remain open until at least 2030.
