Ogilvie Group hits record £480m turnover as profits slide

Stirling-based Ogilvie Group has reported record sales for the year ending 30 June 2025, with turnover rising by £17.2 million to £479.8m, according to newly filed accounts at Companies House.

However, pre-tax profits fell to £8.6m, down from £14.2m the previous year. Net assets grew from £107m to £112m over the period, and the directors approved dividends of £1.097m during the year, up from £100,000 in 2024.

The family-owned group, which employs an average of 509 staff across construction, vehicle hire, housebuilding, IT and surveying, is headquartered at Ogilvie House on Glasgow Road. Founded in 1946 as a construction firm, the business added vehicle hire in the late 1970s and now operates under the leadership of ultimate controlling party Duncan Ogilvie.

Ogilvie Fleet remains a top 20 UK vehicle contract hire company, maintaining a stable fleet of 24,000 cars and light commercial vehicles. Daily rental activity grew during the year and contributed significantly to profits.

Finance director John Watson credited the performance to tight controls on vehicle maintenance costs, well-managed disposals, a buoyant used car and van market, and savings on finance costs. Notably, the group’s accounts include a prior period adjustment relating to securitisation arrangements and an £8.5 million impairment on electric vehicles that should have been recognised in the previous year, leading to a restatement of the 2024 comparatives.

Ogilvie Construction returned to profit, delivering pre-tax profits of £1.3m on turnover of £102.9m, a sharp recovery from a £6.5m loss in 2024. Net assets at the construction subsidiary stood at £3.9m, and its forward order book has grown to £140m from £125m the previous year. The division paid an ordinary dividend of £1m to the parent, having paid none in 2024.

Ogilvie Homes sold 81 units during the year, down from 150 the previous year, with the directors citing economic uncertainty, elevated interest rates and reduced consumer confidence as constraints on demand. The division holds rights to 1,227 plots with planning permission, an increase of 600 units, plus options on 1,820 further units.

The acquisition of 88 acres of consented land at Countesswells has further strengthened the land bank. Active developments include Drovers Gate in Crieff, Weavers Lane in Cairneyhill, and Millside Park in Stanley.

The group’s remaining divisions span IT, telecommunications and cyber security through Net Defence, land surveying via Malcolm Hughes, vehicle accident management through Active Claims Solutions, and vehicle leasing brokerage via First Vehicle Leasing.
