Johnston Carmichael has appointed Roy Hogg and John Gold to its Stirling team as business advisory partner and business advisory director, respectively, expanding its business capabilities.

Mr Hogg, a Stirling native, and Mr Gold will be working closely with Craig Clinton, the office head.

Mr Hogg brings in a strong background in the dental finance sector. He was the owner of his own accountancy firm, which focused on this niche. Mr Hogg’s role at Johnston Carmichael extends to being the head of dentistry, a role passed on from Roddy Anderson.

In his capacity as Scottish chairman of the National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL), he has worked towards enhancing excellence within the dental sector and providing professional services to aid practice owners.

Bringing over three decades of experience in advising firms on compliance and transactional work, Mr Hogg is well-poised to extend his expertise to Johnston Carmichael’s clientele. He is also scheduled to host an event at Johnston Carmichael’s Edinburgh office to introduce the first Scottish version of NASDAL’s annual benchmarking report, showcasing the financial status of dental practices and dentists for the most recent tax year.

Mr Hogg said: “I feel very fortunate to join, Johnston Carmichael, a firm that aligns with both my personal and professional values.

“It is also a source of great pride that I will be working with local businesses to help them flourish. By providing both compliance and advisory services, Johnston Carmichael is well placed to act as a one-stop shop helping trading businesses meet their regulatory requirements while also being proactive in their business and tax affairs.

“As head of dentistry, my goal is to ensure dental professionals have access to trustworthy and accurate advice to support their businesses and to understand how changes in the industry will affect them.”

Mr Gold, who joins the Stirling office as a business advisory director, is a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor with over 25 years of experience, and brings a broad range of specialities to the table.

He has shown particular interest in the agriculture sector, professional services, and owner-managed businesses, often providing top-tier commercial advice inclusive of tax planning and compliance.

Mr Gold will also contribute to the firm’s specialist rural offering, working with businesses operating in this sector across Scotland.

Mr Gold said: “I am looking forward to collaborating with the wider, highly regarded Stirling team and the rest of my new network of colleagues at Johnston Carmichael.

“Stirling has a vibrant and expanding community of family and owner managed businesses, which will benefit from both the extensive experience that Roy and I bring to Craig and the team, along with the comprehensive set of services already offered by Johnston Carmichael.”
