RSM boosts growth with expanded trainee intake

RSM Class of 2018

Audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has expanded its annual trainee intake by appointing 320 new students, including 7 school leavers and graduates across its Scottish offices.

This year’s total intake was up on the 288 who joined the firm in 2017, an increase which RSM said was part of its bid to strengthen the wider growth of the firm and to become first choice adviser to middle market leaders globally.

Seventy-six of the new recruits are school leavers, up on the 52 who joined last year, which RSM said demonstrates its focus on attracting more who choose to make the jump into the world of professional services as an alternative to going to university.

The move comes just two weeks after ‘A’ level results were announced throughout the UK.

The new intake of graduate and school leaver trainees will be working across 30 of RSM’s UK offices.

Sixty-five of the new recruits will be based in London; a further 91 will be based throughout the firm’s southern office network; the rest will be spread throughout the firm’s West and East Midlands, North-West, North-East, Scotland and Northern Ireland regions. They will begin their careers within the firm’s tax, audit, corporate finance, risk, restructuring advisory, financial reporting and IT teams.

After completing an intensive internal training course, the new recruits will commence study towards their professional ACA, AAT, ATT, ICAS, ACCA, CIA or CTA accountancy qualifications.

Robert Ross, COO at RSM, said: “I am delighted to welcome this hugely talented group of new trainees to RSM.

“Our vision to be the first-choice adviser to middle market leaders globally relies heavily on attracting and developing new talent across every area of our business. At RSM we’re dedicated to providing those who join us from school or university with the support and opportunities to develop themselves and their careers, and ultimately make a valuable contribution to our business from day one, as they are our future business leaders. I wish them every success in building their careers at RSM and to enjoy the experience in doing so.”

Victoria Kirkhope, National HR and Development Director, said: “We are driven by supporting our trainees through their professional qualification and in gaining the technical and personal skills they need to develop their careers and achieve their full potential with RSM. Each individual brings their own, unique contribution and that is what makes RSM an exciting place to work. There is no doubt that embarking on your career and studying for a professional qualification at the same time can be challenging. Our trainees need to be committed and prepared to work hard, but if they do the opportunities are there for the taking; from experience of working across our broad range of client services to international secondments, and continuous career progression.

“Our people, who come from a range of backgrounds and bring with them a range of experiences, truly are the heart of our business. I wish every one of our new trainees a long and rewarding career with us.” RSM offers trainees a range of career opportunities from technical development and overseas secondments to participation in key corporate and social responsibility activity, including taking on the Duke of Edinburgh Gold award.”
